This is my Mom’s Braised Cabbage, a quintessential Romanian dish that cradles the soul with its rich, hearty layers of smoky pork and tender, spice-infused cabbage. Ingredients:

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

  • 1 smoked pork hock
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • ½ teaspoon cumin

  • 1 teaspoon black pepper (or to taste)
