Cottage Cheese Toast: Easy, Healthy Tartines!

Move over avocado toast; if you’re looking for a protein-packed, healthy and EASY breakfast, lunch or snack, you’ve got to try these cottage cheese toasts. As I often say, the secret to building dynamic, delicious meals is to layer different textures and flavors. These cottage cheese toasts are the perfect example—they feature warm, crisp toast; cool and creamy cottage cheese; and juicy/crunchy veggies or fruit. You can make them either savory OR sweet, and I’ll show you my very favorite combinations.

Ingredients:

Toast

  • Olive oil, for brushing
  • Salt
  • 2 slices of bread
  • 1 garlic clove, peeled and halved (optional, only for savory toasts)
  • Hood Country Style Cottage Cheese

Savory Toast Topping Ideas

  • Sliced tomatoes, cucumber and/or avocado
  • Microgreens, sprouts or fresh herbs
  • Extra virgin olive oil
  • Lemon juice, lime juice and/or vinegar
  • Flaky sea salt and freshly ground black pepper
  • Seeds, chia, hemp, sunflower and/or sesame seeds

Sweet Toast Topping Ideas

  • Fresh fruit, such as berries, sliced peaches and/or sliced melon
  • Jam, warmed if thick
  • Honey or maple syrup
  • Seeds, chia, hemp, sunflower and/or pumpkin
  • Chopped toasted nuts
  • Flaky sea salt, ground cinnamon and/or nutmeg
