Irish Cheese Toasties

Irish Cheese Toasties

Best Cheese Toasties – This classic snack recipe makes an Irish-style cheese on toast with eggs, Worcestershire, and Dijon mustard. It’s cheesy, savory, toasty, and oh-so-satisfying!

Cheese Toasties are a fabulously decadent breakfast, lunch, or snack in most parts of the UK. There are many variations between the United Kingdom countries, as well as regions within each country. A classic British Cheese Toastie is similar to an American grilled cheese sandwich, but also contains a bit of Worcestershire sauce, and sometimes herbs or mustard. It is then cooked in a grill pan to create defined grill marks.

However, an Irish Cheese Toastie (also called Cheese on Toast) is most commonly served open-faced. The cheese is mixed with egg to become extra puffy on top when baked!

We personally like this version because it feels significantly different than American grilled cheese, but is still a familiar and comforting food. You will have a cheesy, eggy delight with crispy outside edges and a soft cheesy center! It’s easy to make in the oven, and is perfect to curb a fatty-carb craving any time of day.

Ingredients:
  • 6 slices bread brown, potato, white, multi-grain
  • 2 tablespoons softened butter
  • 3 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons Dijon mustard
  • 2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 7-8 ounces aged Irish cheddar shredded (or sharp cheddar)
  • ½ teaspoon cracked black pepper
  • 1 tablespoons fresh chopped chive
